Pitkerro Road crossing campaigners hope for news this week

Campaigners demanding a pedestrian crossing on a busy Dundee road hope to hear this week whether their efforts have succeeded.
Almost 300 people have signed an online petition requesting that the city council construct a recognised crossing on Pitkerro Road with three pedestrians believed to have been hit by cars in the past 15 months.
Earlier this month Dundee City Council said it would conduct a review of the road to study whether it would be suitable to construct a crossing and campaigners remain hopeful that a safe passage across the road will be installed once the relevant data have been analysed.
One of them, Cory Campbell, a resident of Baxter Park Terrace, said, “We have proven that the community wants this. The problem with the council is that in the past they have taken a position and stuck with it.
“We’ve had to fight for this but we’re hoping to hear something later this week.”
Following an article in The Courier, public support for the petition gathered at pace and this morning stood at 260 signatures.
Used by motorists to travel between the city centre and Kingsway East, the popular route runs alongside Baxter Park and Morgan Academy.
