Darlings who eloped to renew vows after wedding show win

Wedding bells are set to ring for a second time for one Dundee couple, after they won a special day at a shopping centre exhibition.

Married couple David and Jill Darling could be walking down the aisle once again, after winning the prize of a wedding at the Dundee Hilton at the Overgate Centre’s wedding show held on Sunday.

David, originally from Manchester, and Jill, from Minnesota in America, eloped 32 years ago and now live in Dundee.

With their first wedding a somewhat minimalist occasion, the couple are hoping to use the unexpected prize as an excuse to celebrate their vows all over again.

Jill said, “It was a bit of a shock to win. I asked the compere if I could enter, seeing that I was already married, and was told that I could. I was so sure that I wasn’t going to win and the entries were almost full, so I was very surprised when my name got called.

“David and I eloped 32 years ago and we only had two people at our wedding then. Whatever we do with this prize, it’s going to be a great night.”
