The Perth public have been warned to be on their guard after an upsurge in money scam attempts.
Police have warned residents to remain vigilant following an increase in unsolicited communication relating to bank charges being refunded or the offer to remove corrupted software from home computers.
In both instances the caller has used different approaches to try to convince his target to transfer him money.
Detective Sergeant Colin Lorimer said, “People should treat unsolicited communication email, telephone and letters that offer unexpected wealth or advantage with extreme suspicion.
“Before sending any money, always seek to verify the details of the correspondence with the organisation that appears to have sent it to you.
“To do so, use contact details from an independent source to contact the organisation.
“Do not use the details they have supplied to you. Fraudsters will impersonate large organisations such as banks, government departments or the police service in an attempt to give their scam credibility.”
