Kirriemuir Golf Club has entered a new era with the signing of a formal agreement streamlining the way the body is run.
The milestone was reached after many years of discussion and negotiation following agreement of Kirriemuir Golf Club Ltd and Kirriemuir Players’ Golf Club to amalgamate and form one body that will manage all aspects of the golf club.
Historically, Kirriemuir Golf Club Ltd has been responsible for the course, while the players’ club ran competitions and a joint committee managed the clubhouse bar and catering.
At a special general meeting of the limited company, the final resolutions were approved by shareholders, allowing chairman Gordon Clark, to sign the various agreements on behalf of the company.
Representatives of the players’ club were also there to sign, having given prior approval to the merger, with president Bert Miller describing the move as rewarding.
Recently-appointed club captain Alan Tucker said the amalgamation was very welcome and acknowledged the work carried out over the years by a number of individuals, which had made the change possible.
“Although many playing members have been involved on the committees of both organisations, there were often some difficulties in making major decisions which might benefit one side of the club to the disadvantage of the other,” said a club spokesman.
“Such issues will now be a thing of the past. Indeed, the management structure for the last year has been running on the lines of a merged club and Kirriemuir is already seeing the benefit.
“Kirriemuir Golf Club celebrated its centenary in 2009 and now has more cause to look forward to the next hundred years or more with the basis for sound management decisions in place and everyone clearly pulling in the same direction.”
