A blocked sewer pipe continues to cause havoc at the home of a Kirkton mother who for the past three weeks has watched in horror as raw human waste overflowed into her back garden.
Fiona-Anne Newton (25), of Beauly Avenue, hit out at Dundee City Council for failing to fix the problem, despite her repeated calls.
The disgusting mess has forced the single mother to keep her daughters aged two and three from playing in the garden.
On top of this, the family toilet backs up every day, with raw sewage almost spilling on to the floor.
To prevent this from happening, a nearby resident has made daily trips to the home to unscrew a cap on the waste pipe attached to the rear of the property.
As a consequence of this sewage is sprayed over the garden, posing a significant health risk.
Ms Newton says council workers had visited the home on two occasions in the first week of reporting the problem, but had not returned since.
She describes the situation as “beyond a joke,” and is calling on the local authority to take urgent action.
“I spoke with someone at the council who said they would send a digger round, but no-one has even been up to see if a digger could fit down the side of the house,” she said.
“Every night my neighbour comes up and takes the cap off the waste pipe for me. This may alleviate the problem, but it also causes my back garden to be covered in raw sewerage.
“I don’t let my girls play out there any more because it is disgusting and it smells.
“Also I am beginning to feel unwell and my girls have been suffering from diarrhoea now I do not know if this is a result of the sewage or not.”
A spokesman for Dundee City Council said, “A housing officer will visit to discuss the situation.”
