As the anniversary of J. M. Barrie”s birth nears this weekend, those taking part in the celebrations will be able to toast the great man with a specially commissioned ale.
Pan ale went on sale to coincide with the start of the celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of the Peter Pan author’s birth.
The cask ale has been created in the Inveralmond Brewery in Perth, and Jim Glendinning, landlord of the Roods Bar in Barrie’s home town of Kirriemuir, thinks the celebrations are worthy of a special beer.
“We wanted to do something of our own for the Barrie 150th anniversary festival so we have got the Inveralmond Brewery to produce a special cask of Pan Ale and we’re sure people will enjoy it,” he said.
The label features the statue of Peter Pan playing the flute, which both visitors and residents will recognise as being the same as the statue which stands in the town centre.
But like the ephemeral hero of Barrie’s story, once the barrel is gone, its gone.
