Dundee United ‘keeper Dusan Pernis has been named in Slovakia”s provisional squad for the World Cup.
While there’s no guarantee the former MSK Zilnia player will make the cut for South Africa, his club manager reckons he’d be worthy of inclusion in the final 23 after proving a big hit with United since joining them late last year.
“It’s great for Dusan to be named in the Slovakia squad,” said Peter Houston.
“At the moment it’s just a training camp but it gives him a chance to stake a claim for the World Cup, and he deserves it because he’s done brilliantly for us.
“Taking over from Nicky Weaver wasn’t an easy thing to do because Nicky is a top class goalkeeper.
“But Dusan has slotted in perfectly and I wouldn’t bet against him ending up in the Premiership, too, a couple of years from now.”
Weaver, meanwhile, was invited to Tannadice today, to train with his old team-mates and will be the club’s guest at the Scottish Cup final.
Weaver, who has been released by Burnley, travelled to Dundee and will link up with the squad as they complete their preparations for Hampden.
“Nicky is to be our guest at the final and will be travelling through to Glasgow on the staff bus,” said Houston. “And he’s coming in tomorrow morning to join the lads for the wee session we’ll be doing before heading for our hotel in the west.
“Nicky played his part in our finishing third in the league and it will be great to see him again.”
