John McGlynn has asked the club’s fans to turn out in their thousands for Saturday’s game against Queen of the South so the players and management can say a big thank you for their backing this season.
Over 3000 supporters made the short journey to Dunfermline last weekend for the vital Fife derby against the Pars.
They returned home to Kirkcaldy disappointed after a 2-1 defeat that left Dunfermline four points ahead of Rovers with just two games left this season.
Raith’s championship destiny is now out of their own hands but McGlynn is hoping the club’s fans can roar their team on to victory over Queens in the hope they can capitalise on any slip-up by Jim McIntyre’s side in Greenock against Morton.
“It would be great if we could have a big turnout,” said the Stark’s Park boss. “I have insisted all season that we have been punching above our weight in this league.
“So, the players deserve enormous credit for getting us into this position with just two games to go.
“It would be a huge boost if the fans came out in numbers to give us extra encouragement to help us play our part.
“They have been magnificent all season and we would really appreciate it if everyone who made it to East End Park last week could come along again so we can thank them all for their support.”
No matter what happens on Saturday afternoon, the club’s players and management will be heading to the Raith Supporters’ Club annual player of the year dance in the evening.
One of the highlights of the night will come when McGlynn’s choice of manager’s player of the year award is announced.
He was keeping the identity of the recipient a closely guarded secret but was happy to divulge just how difficult a task it was selecting only one player for recognition.
“It is always a very hard decision to make,” he said. “Every player involved with the club has had a great season. They have all been playing to a highly-consistent level but I had to make a decision.”
“That’s something you have to do every day as a manager but having made my choice, it is one I am happy with.”Allan WalkerMeanwhile, McGlynn also revealed that Allan Walker’s season is over as he was dismissed following the final whistle at the end of the Dunfermline game following a clash with the Pars Davie Graham.
The midfielder picked up an automatic one-game suspension and will also miss next weekend’s match at Partick as he had gone over the disciplinary points threshold.
Gary Wales will also miss out with a hamstring injury while Willie Dyer (calf) and Scott McBride (dead leg) are both rated as doubtful.
However, Stephen Simmons and Graham Weir have both recovered from foot knocks and should be available.
