Angry Pitkerro Road residents saw their cars targeted in another weekend spate of vandalism.
At least six vehicles had their nearside wing mirrors wrenched from doorframes, causing yet more expense and inconvenience to their owners.
The latest bout of property destruction is believed to have occurred at around 7.30am on Sunday to cars parked along a small stretch of the busy thoroughfare, opposite Stobsmuir Ponds.
One of those who woke to find his Vauxhall Corsa had been damaged was Wayne Tams (29), an electronic engineer.
Vandals had previously targeted both his, and his girlfriend’s, cars in October and January, resulting in scratches along the bodywork. He summed up the latest episode as frustrating” and hopes the police catch the culprits soon.
“For us, it has been the third time we have been victims to vandals. As much as I appreciate the work of the police, I can’t help but feel that nothing has changed since the last time cars were attacked,” he said.
“With my girlfriend only recently giving birth she feels unsafe driving this car now. It means taking a day off work to get it fixed but we need to do it as soon as possible.
“I was thinking, only this morning, of parking our cars on the other side of the park to try and avoid this happening again.”
The latest damage comes only three months after vandals scratched around 30 cars in the Baxter Park area.
Although this time round fewer vehicles appear to have been harmed, police were not able to confirm any details surrounding the latest incident.
However, residents on Pitkerro Road told The Courier that police officers had interviewed neighbours and also taken fingerprints from the parked vehicles.Blood traceOne homeowner said that a trace of blood had been taken from one of the cars and that officers were now reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
For one elderly resident the attack is nothing new. The woman, who asked not to be named, is one of the unlucky ones whose car mirror was ripped from the door.
As an interim solution she has managed to tape it back on but says she is annoyed with those responsible.
“I honestly cannot see what anyone gets out of doing this,” she said. “I have no alternative but to leave the car out on the street.
“We have had this happen before but that is over a long period nothing recently until now. I am annoyed about it though. It means spending more money, I just hope it’s not too expensive.”
Some of those affected spoke of hearing a loud bang early on Sunday morning and seeing a group of children run down Pitkerro Road towards Baxter Park.
Tayside Police said, “Officers are in the process of reviewing both public and private CCTV footage from the area in an attempt to identify whoever is responsible for these anti-social crimes.”
The force has appealed for any witnesses to get in touch on 0300 2222 1111 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
