Dundee Rep and The Traverse Theatre Company in Edinburgh have plenty to celebrate in the year’s Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland.
They are in the running for five awards each and are just behind the National Theatre of Scotland and Edinburgh’s Royal Lyceum, which are the leaders in being shortlisted in six categories each.
The Dundee Rep candidates are best male performance, David Birrell as Sweeney Todd in Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street; best director, James Brining, Sweeney Todd; best design, Colin Richmond (set) and Chris Davey (lighting), Sweeney Todd; best music and sound, Hilary Brooks, Sweeney Todd; and best production, Sweeney Todd.
This year’s ceremony will be held for a third time at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh on Sunday, June 12.
