Striker Graham Bayne thankful to ‘brilliant’ Pars manager Jim McIntyre

Homecoming Scottish Cup Semi-Final Preview. Dunfermline FC player Graham Bayne.

Graham Bayne has thanked Dunfermline boss Jim McIntyre for giving him the chance to prove he can do a job for the Pars in the SPL next season.

However, while Bayne confesses he has a big emotional attachment to the East End Park club, he admits he could still move elsewhere if he receives the right offer this summer.

The big striker’s first spell at Dunfermline was brought to an end in 2010 by a career-threatening foot injury.

Bayne had been given every chance by the club and McIntyre to overcome the problem but when he broke down again last July, it looked like his time with the Pars was over for good. However, Bayne finally regained full fitness at the start of this year and he was snapped up as a trialist by Dundee before McIntyre enticed him back to Dunfermline to help them clinch the first division championship.

Now, he has been invited to attend pre-season training by the Pars boss in a bid to prove he still has what it takes to compete at a higher level.

“Dunfermline have been unbelievably good to me,” said Bayne.

“They think I can do a job in the SPL, but I have missed so much football that before they offer me a contract they want to see whether I can sustain the rigours of a full pre-season.

“I spoke to the manager and he said that if there was interest from elsewhere, he would be disappointed if I decided to leave but he would fully understand as I have a young family and it would be hard in this current climate to turn down a concrete offer.

“I can confirm that there has been other interest, but I would stress no deal has been done.

“Considering where I was a year ago, it is it is pleasing that people think so much of me.

“It is great to know that opportunity with Dunfermline is still there and I cannot thank the manager enough.

“I have a big emotional attachment to the Pars but the gaffer told me I have to look after myself and that I owe him nothingbut I do.

“He has been brilliant with me throughout the duration of my time at the club.

“But as I said, I will only be leaving if it is an offer that is too good to turn down.”
