A man died and several people were injured following a devastating crash in Fife on Wednesday night.
The accident, which occurred on the A921 near the Seafield roundabout in Kirkcaldy shortly before 5.15pm, involved a car and a bus.
The car driver sustained fatal injuries. No further details concerning the deceased have been released.
Several children were among the seven people injured. The youngsters who were all passengers on the single-decker bus were described by an ambulance service spokesman as “walking wounded.”
Although six other people received medical attention following the accident, it is understood that none of them was suffering from life-threatening injuries.
The Kirkcaldy to Kinghorn road was closed for several hours following the accident and there was a huge turnout from the emergency services.
Local diversions were put it place as debris was cleared from the carriageway.
Meanwhile, accident investigators completed a meticulous examination of the scene.
One commuter who was making her way home to Kinghorn came across the accident scene shortly after 5.30pm.
“There were loads of police officers and traffic was being turned back at the Seafield roundabout,” she said. “It had obviously been a pretty serious incident as fire engines and several ambulances were also at the scene.”
A Fife Constabulary spokesman said, “Emergency services were called to the scene at 5.15pm. The crash involved a bus and a silver Vauxhall motor car.”
He added, “The male driver of the car unfortunately sustained injuries which have since proved fatal.”
The spokesman said several passengers from the bus were treated for a range of “minor” injuries.
