Dundee City Council has bought a former police office for a steal of a price.
The former office on Orleans Place in Menzieshill closed in 2000.
But now the Scottish Police Authority and Dundee City Council have struck a deal over the sale of the one-storey building for just £5,000.
The building is part of a row of shop units and could be demolished, although final plans for the site are yet to be confirmed.
Tom Ferguson, councillor for the area, said the council was looking to buy all the units.
He said: “It’s another stage towards the much-needed regeneration of that area.
“I am pleased a deal has been struck for the council to acquire the building. The acquisition was a standard legal process that was necessary for work to start on regenerating the area sooner rather than later.
“There is a masterplan for the area and it will gradually unfold as we go along.”
The building is located near Menzieshill library and community centre and close to a small shopping precinct.
Minutes from the SPA meeting said: “Dundee City Council, who own the adjoining property, has indicated that it wants to demolish the police building and other neighbouring property as part of a community area regeneration project.”
The deal will see the SPA receive £5,000 and it will also save £1,000 a year from running costs and rates.
A council spokesman said: “This purchase will help to form part of the regeneration of that area of Menzieshill, the details of which are currently being worked on.”
