A garage boss is offering a reward of £1,000 for the return of 70 stolen keys.
A safe containing the keys was ripped from the wall at Balgonie Motor Company in Lochgelly.
CCTV footage posted online shows a figure in the showroom, carrying some kind of implement.
Director Paul Bell made his appeal on Facebook, where word has spread of the offence which took place late on Sunday or in the early hours of Monday.
He said: “There was no cash, only keys.”
Despite a sign on the box stating it contained no money, Mr Bell said: “I assume they were only looking for cash as lots of other tools, etc., were not taken so they will be disappointed when it’s opened and there’s no cash.”
According to the used car sales company, which has another showroom in Cardenden, the safe was bolted to the timber frame of the building.
Police Scotland appealed to anyone with information about the crime to get in touch.
A spokesperson said: “We can confirm we received a report of a business housebreaking on Auchterderran Road, Lochgelly.
“The incident happened between 4.30pm on Sunday and 8.45am on Monday.
“Those with any information can contact us on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
