A 30-year-old man has died after being struck by a train between Broughty Ferry and Monifieth on Tuesday evening.
The 17.41 Glasgow Queen Street to Aberdeen train hit the person near Shiell Street at around 8pm.
The line remained closed in both directions for several hours as an investigation by British Transport Police got under way.
ScotRail provided replacement buses and taxis to help limit the impact upon its passengers.
A ScotRail spokesman said: “We apologise to any customers whose journeys have been affected by this tragic incident.”
Selected train services running through Dundee and Carnoustie stations were cancelled, delayed or revised as a result of the incident.
A spokesman for Police Scotland Tayside division said: “The call came to us at 8.20pm. I can confirm that we are assisting our colleagues at British Transport Police.”
