New car registrations in Scotland fell last month, but increased in the UK as a whole by 6.66% to 164,856.
Sales dropped by 1.15% to 12,528 vehicles north of the border.
This came in contrast to a 6.6% UK uplift to 164,856.
The figures were received with disappointment by Scottish Motor Trade Association CEO Douglas Robertson.
However, they did follow a 26.85% increase in December which capped a record year for new car sales north of the border.
Mr Robertson said: “It does confirm our prediction a few months ago that the market would settle down during 2015, without any great increases or decreases over the course of the year.”
However, Euan Murray from Barclays Corporate Banking, Scotland, said: “2015 has been quick out of the starting blocks.”
The top-selling new car last month was the Vauxhall Corsa, with 587 bought, followed by the Ford Fiesta with 516.
