Carnoustie model Nicole Abbott swapped the glamour of the photoshoot and the beauty contest stage for rather grittier surroundings when she visited Angus Council’s recycling centre in Arbroath.
As part of her bid to be crowned Miss Earth, nursing student Nicole is required to find out about and promote the ‘three Rs’ reduce, reuse and recycle in the area and so was shown around the venue by waste strategy officer Morag Grant.
She learned about how the recyclable metals, plastics, paper, cardboard, oils and domestic appliances are gathered from across Angus and processed and baled before going on to be reused.
Nicole said, “It was fascinating to find out what happens to the stuff households throw away and it is encouraging to know that so much of it is not simply being put to landfill to cause problems for future generations and that efforts are always being made to finds way of recycling more and more of our waste.”
