St Johnstone striker Fran Sandaza has sent a get well soon message to Rangers while admitting he is glad to have avoided the turmoil at Ibrox.
The Spanish striker was offered, and turned down, a pre-contract deal by the Light Blues last month. Then he was the subject of transfer deadline day drama when he was contacted by Rangers while at home in Madrid about being a possible replacement for their departing frontman Nikica Jelavic.
But the window closed with Sandaza still a Saints player and he has since looked on with incredulity as the administrators have been called in to run the Glasgow giants.
Sandaza sent his best wishes to the staff and players at Ibrox but also admitted he dodged a bullet by staying at McDiarmid Park.
”I made a good decision,” said Sandaza. ”I am relieved about Rangers because nobody likes to be at a club which is in administration and struggling with money.
”I wish them all the best and I hope they will recover from that situation because they are great club and everyone would like to play for them.
”At the moment they are having a hard time so I feel sorry for them. But at no point did I decide to sign a pre-contract with them.
”I only had a doubt about a move in January, not any doubt about a pre-contract. It would have been worrying if I had signed a pre-contract with them, for sure.”
Sandaza was asked if he would consider joining Rangers in future should they survive their current predicament.
”It depends on the situation with the club and the offer,” he said. ”I never said I wouldn’t like to play for them. They are a big club.
”But I don’t know if I will leave St Johnstone at the end of the season. They have offered me a contract to sign for two years and I don’t have an offer from any other club, so I will think about it in the future.”
