St Andrews University considers renewable energy project for former Guardbridge paper mill
ByNews reporter
St Andrews University officials are continuing to consider plans for Guardbridge paper mill and it now appears some kind of renewable energy project is the likeliest candidate.
Curtis Fine Papers ended its long-running operation at Guardbridge in 2008. At the time more than 250 jobs were lost and, since then, the sprawling factory has lain unused.
However, last June a new lease of life was injected when it was revealed that St Andrews University had reached an agreement with administrator KPMG to purchase it for an undisclosed amount.
The factory had been on the market with an asking price of around £3 million. Officials at the university yesterday said they were continuing to consider options for the site.
It is understood that development to create some form of renewable energy source is favoured. Further details are expected to emerge in the coming months.
