Nancy Holehouse (54) was nominated by members of the Angus Writers’ Circle. The Scottish Writing Groups Showcase Competition was held in Glasgow during the city’s Aye Write! Festival. Nancy said, “I wrote a humourous poem about cats from Cats the musical, and about my old cat that would always wander around to the neighbours. “I must admit that I was quite surprised when I found out that I had come second.” Nancy won an Amazon voucher with her poem Circle for Cats. After moving to Scotland from Zimbabwe aged nine, Nancy began writing at school, and went on to study English and history at Stirling University. She is now a full-time carer for her mother and finds that writing provides a creative outlet for day-to-day stress.
