A man who brought £9,000 of heroin into Dundee has been jailed for his part in the supply chain.
Liverpool man Leslie Cottle was caught by police driving the drugs into the city on May 22.
He was jailed for 16 months at Dundee Sheriff Court for his part in the supply of class A heroin.
The court heard previously how police received an anonymous tip off that drugs were being taken into the city in a Volkswagen Golf.
Officers from the road policing unit stopped the car and when he saw the drugs dog, Cottle confessed.
He said: “Are you away to put the dog in there? I will save you some time, plastic bag in side pocket of my black bag.”
Two bags of brown powder, containing 4.8g and 91.9g had a potential illicit street value of £9,670.
Cottle, 46, of Rimrose Valley Road, Liverpool, admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin on May 22 2015 on the Kingsway close to the Myrekirk roundabout.
Cottle’s defence solicitor told the court his client had driven the drugs into the city “under duress”.
He said: “The motive here is not for financial gain.
“The drugs originated in another part of the country.
“When he was bringing it into Dundee he was stopped by police and from the outset he said he was guilty.
“He has expressed remorse in relation to this.”
Sheriff Lorna Drummond said Cottle played a “lesser role” in supplying the drugs.
She said: “There are many mitigating circumstances.
“The charge relates to a single day and in my view he played a lesser role in the supply chain.
“Your motive was not financial gain.
“The trouble is the gravity of the offence.
“This involves £9,000 of class A drugs.
“It is very difficult to get away from a custodial sentence when it is that level of class A drugs.”
Sheriff Drummond said: “The high level of drugs he was found with means in my view only a custodial sentence is appropriate.”
