Staff facing an uncertain future following the shock collapse of McEwens of Perth will be offered professional support to help them find new work.
The historic department store, which has been part of the city since the 19th century, is closing down after its owners went into administration last week.
All 110 staff are expected to be made redundant, with 64 already gone.
An all-day event will be held at Perth Concert Hall on Friday, offering one-to-one advice for anyone employed by the retailer.
The session has been arranged by Skills Development Scotland (SDS) and is being organised by the Partnership Action for Continuing Employment, the Scottish Government’s initiative for responding to redundancy situations.
Rose-Marie Stewart, team leader at SDS, said: “The closure of McEwens of Perth has come as a shock to the entire community.
“This event at Perth Concert Hall will offer a range of advice for anyone affected by the closure, from job hunting and careers advice to information on training and learning. All those affected are welcome to drop in at any point.”
As well as careers advice from SDS, help will be available from Jobcentre Plus and Perth and Kinross Council.
Perth College will also be offering information on learning opportunities and skills development. Local employers are also expected to attend.
Ms Stewart added: “Losing a job in such circumstances is a painful experience and especially for many people who have not had to apply for a job for some time.
“We understand that and are here to give as much support as we possibly can.”
Tthe closing down sale at the St John Street store continues, with new posters proclaiming: “Everything must go”.
A spokeswoman for shop workers’ union Usdaw confirmed it had no representatives at the store and were not involved in redundancy negotiations.
Owners John and Georgina Bullough announced they were calling in administrators last week.
They said they had tried everything to keep the business afloat, including a fruitless search for a buyer or a business partner.
Blair Nimmo and Tony Friar of KPMG have been appointed joint administrators and have called a closing down sale to clear stock and realise assets.
