Organisers of an ambitious Festival of Heroes extravaganza featuring the Red Arrows still have thousands of pounds to raise before the big day.
Committee chairman Jamie Buchan was speaking after a crowdfunder campaign saw 60 people donate a combined £1,500 towards the running costs of the June 4 Arbroath event.
It had been hoped that a target of £10,000 could be achieved through crowdfunding.
Despite the shortfall thus far, Mr Buchan said things are still “ticking along very nicely” with two months to go.
The organising committee secured the Red Arrows after £13,000 was donated early on in the campaign by Specsavers stores across Scotland.
Mr Buchan said: “We are incredibly grateful to Specsavers for coming forward with this show of support but also to the individuals from the community who pledged their hard earned cash to help fund what will be an amazing day out.
“We had one donor who wanted to remain anonymous pledge £300 which initially I thought was a mistake so when I contacted her to advise, she told me of her connection to the forces and how she wanted to help and it was no mistake.
“Overall, we have a little under £10,000 to still raise and things are ticking along very nicely with some great support from the community.
“We had a lady make tablet and sold it to her friends which raised £25 and Santander in Arbroath held a fun day in branch which put £140 in to the kitty.
“The Festival of Heroes committee are incredibly appreciative of the support and community spirit being shown and we look forward to June 4.”
The Red Arrows will visit the town for the first time in more than 10 years at the Arbroath Festival of Heroes.
The event is a joint collaboration between the members of the previously staged Armed Forces and Emergency Services Parade and Arbroath Round Table.
It will also recognise local heroes from the community and the services with 10,000 people expected to be in attendance.
