More than £100 million has been cut from the water bills of business and public-sector organisations since retail competition was introduced six years ago.
Figures from Business Stream in Scotland, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dunfermline-based Scottish Water, said the two primary sources of cost savings in the period were £43m of water efficiency measures and £51.7m from price discounts.
Competition was introduced to Scotland in April 2008, creating the first market of its kind in the world.
Business Stream chief executive Mark Powles said: “A lot of our customers are now very sophisticated in their approach to water management, and treat water as an important business asset.”
