A peckish drink-driver was found slumped in his car with a half-eaten burger in his hand in the car park of an Angus McDonald’s.
Forfar Sheriff Court heard that Steven Torrie had alarmed onlookers by almost hitting the signs at Arbroath’s drive-through, before a member of staff thought he was acting oddly as he paid for his meal.
Torrie, 36, of Duncan Road, Letham, appearing before Sheriff Gregor Murray, admitted driving with excess alcohol (97 mics) on September 13 at the Westway retail park.
Procurator fiscal Jill Drummond said witnesses saw a black Audi pull away from Westway shortly before 1am and became concerned when they saw it lurching forward and swerving from side to side.
Police were called and they found Torrie parked across three bays in the car park, with his half-eaten burger in his hand.
Defence solicitor Michael Boyd told the court his client had been out in Carnoustie for a drink with former colleagues but plans to stay there had fallen through.
“He got lost from his workmates and stupidly decided to jump in his own motor vehicle.”
Sheriff Murray disqualified Torrie from driving for 20 months and fined him £500.
