Broadcaster STV is seeking permission to establish a new television channel dedicated to Dundee.
The firm has teamed up with Abertay University and Dundee and Angus College in their application to watchdog Ofcom for a new local tv licence for the city.
The new Dundee channel would deliver a mix of local news and current affairs content.
It is one of three new applications lodged by the Glasgow-based broadcaster, which also wants to establish local channels in Aberdeen and Ayr.
Those bids are respectively being backed by Robert Gordon University and North East Scotland College and the University of the West of Scotland.
STV first moved into the local market in June when it went live with its Glasgow channel. The service reaches a monthly audience of 500,000 and 60% of viewers within the transmission area have logged on at one point since launch.
An Edinburgh-based channel, which is been developed in conjunction with Napier University, will come onstream in January.
STV said the local channels were designed to give media students the chance to learn and train within a live television environment.
The various education partners will be represented on the board of their respective local station should Ofcom grant broadcast licences.
Bobby Hain, director of channels at STV, said: “We have demonstrated our ability to engage with local communities and deliver relevant, local content across STV’s multi-platforms, including the current STV Glasgow licence and our Apps serving Scotland’s largest cities.
“STV believes that, working closely with our education partners, we can successfully deliver compelling services in these three additional areas across the 12 year licence.”
