Efforts are underway to trace the person responsible for abandoning a cat outside a Glenrothes vet.
Staff at St Clair Vets in Cadham alerted the Scottish SPCA after discovering the black feline taped inside a box outside their premises on Wednesday.
Nicknamed “Spooky”, the animal is now at a rehoming centre, however officers believe that a second cat may also have been dumped.
Senior inspector Steven Gray said: ”Spooky’s box was taped up and had blankets and a plastic container inside.
“We’re quite sure she was abandoned along with another cat as there was a second box beside her which was lying opened.
“Whoever abandoned Spooky may have thought they were leaving her somewhere safe, but it doesn’t change the fact that abandoning an animal is very irresponsible and also an offence.”
