A man accused of murdering a Fife toddler has gone on trial in Glasgow.
Kevin Park is charged with killing two-year-old Madison Horn at her home in Kelty on April 20.
A jury heard how Madison was said to have injured herself that day after a bed she was jumping on “caved in”.
The child’s mother, Anne Marie White, was the first witness to give evidence at the High Court in Glasgow.
She said she started dating Park in November last year before moving into her house in Croftangry Road, Kelty.
The 22-year-old said Park and Madison got on “really well”.
She said on April 20 she left Madison in Park’s care to go to a party and later spoke to him on the phone after receiving a Facebook message from him.
She said he told her Madison had banged her head when the bed collapsed but that she was fine and they were about to watch a movie.
In a second call he said he had called an ambulance because Madison had stopped breathing, Ms White said.
A passing ambulance driver took her to hospital.
She said: “I was with her when she died. She just looked so lifeless.
“There was bruising on her cheek, head and ear. Some of her hair was missing.”
She said Madison did not look like that when she last saw her.
Park is accused of shouting at Madison, pulling her hair, lifting her up and repeatedly hitting her head against a wall.
He is also said to have bitten the toddler on the body and repeatedly hit her “by means to the prosecutor unknown”.
Park denies murdering Madison and the trial continues.
