Overturned potato lorry causes day of frustration for Dundee drivers
ByAlan Wilson
Commuters faced more long delays in Dundee this evening as an overturned lorry container continued to block one lane of the westbound carriageway of the A90.
Police say rush-hour traffic was backed up along Kingsway and Riverside as vehicles were funnelled into one lane coming on to the Swallow roundabout.
The lorry’s container, which was carrying potatoes, was due to finally be removed by a special crane around 9pm on Thursday.
The accident happened around 3.45am and caused long delays for commuters. The cab of the lorry was removed later in the morning.
The driver was not hurt, but the large container had to be left in situ to allow for the crane to be brought in tonight.
A spokesman for Police Scotland, Tayside Division, said: “It’s just a question of getting it cleared, but that won’t happen until later today. It will take time for the specialist equipment needed to arrive.”
BEAR Scotland, which maintains the road, closed off the outside lanes in each direction.
There was congestion on the eastbound side of the road as far back as Longforgan and back as far as the Myrekirk roundabout.
