Dundee games company 4J Studios is celebrating a double success at the prestigious TIGA Games Industry Awards.

The company won the Best Arcade Game by a Large Studio category for its console version of Minecraft.

And the title also won the Game of the Year prize, which is voted for by the public.

Minecraft allows players to design and build entire worlds online.

There was also success for Five Pixels whose game Seek won best student game at the TIGA Awards.

The team are all students at Abertay University and developed the title for its annual Dare to be Digital competition.

TIGA chief executive Dr Richard Wilson said: “Huge congratulations to all of the winners as well as everyone that made it on to the shortlist. It is incredibly rewarding to see how positively the UK video game community responds to the TIGA Awards and the opportunity to gain recognition for their achievements and showcase their work.

“The 2014 Awards have totally surpassed our expectations. We have broken our record again for the number of individual Game Of The Year votes, we have had 25% more people come along on the night and most importantly, we had 50% more entries this year than last.”
