Cowdenbeath will welcome another of the Championship’s big guns to Central Park when Hibs follow in Rangers’ footsteps.
The Fife side went down 3-0 to the Ibrox men on Tuesday to stay at the foot of the table, but will be upbeat for the visit of the Easter Road men.
This is because Cowden took Hibs to the wire when the teams met in Leith earlier in the season, with only a 94th-minute goal from Jason Cummings nicking the three points for Alan Stubbs’ team.
Manager Jimmy Nicholl said: “When we played them at Easter Road we got ourselves in a position to win the game, but then lost it in the closing seconds.
“That means this time we know that if we go about our work properly we will have a real chance of getting the right result.
“These are great games for the players and I want them to go out and enjoy the atmosphere and put on a performance.”
Stubbs, who is expecting his side to be tested this afternoon, said: “I saw Cowdenbeath on Tuesday against Rangers, and for periods of the game they did really well.
“I also watched them against Falkirk (which the Fifers lost 6-0), which was probably one of those matches you can’t judge anyone on, and we’ve seen them against Hearts.”
He added: “We’re not so stupid or naive to think we can go anywhere and the opposition will just allow us to play. We know it’s going to be tough.”
Fans should note that cash gates will be operating at today’s game, which was originally an all-ticket clash.
