Brechin climbed to fifth place in League One with a 2-1 victory over Stirling Albion.
The heroic home side played with 10 men for almost 40 minutes to claim a win which takes them to within four points of league leaders Forfar, who they meet in a derby on Saturday.
Brechin had the first chance on 12 minutes when Gary Fusco drove just wide.
On 15 minutes, Stirling’s Gordon Smith was denied by Graeme Smith and, six minutes later, the keeper saved again from Smith, then he denied the lively Sandy Cunningham.
Brechin took the lead on 27 minutes when Robert Thomson controlled a pass from Greg Cameron and shot home.
Six minutes into the second half, visiting keeper Callum Reidford was quickly off his line to deny Bobby Barr.
On 53 minutes, Brechin’s Colin Hamilton was sent off for handling to deny Gordon Smith a goal.
Smith took the penalty but his namesake Graeme dived to his right to save.
Brechin reshuffled, sending on Paul McLean and the substitute scored with his first touch on 57 minutes when he headed home a Jamie Masson free-kick.
Stirling threw everything forward but Brechin defended superbly and were only breached on 86 minutes when Graham Weir headed home a cross from James Creaney.
Brechin held out during four minutes of added time to claim three valuable points.
Brechin boss Ray McKinnon said: “I am happy with the character shown by my players. To see the game out, having played with 10 men for so long was a big positive.
“Paul McLean went on and scored a vital goal. He was been superb for us but found himself out of the starting XI tonight.
“It was a fantastic save by my keeper at the penalty and it proved crucial as it set us up for victory.”
