A disqualified driver stole and crashed his father’s car on a mercy dash to his girlfriend’s home.
Perth Sheriff Court heard Liam Clark was on his way to comfort his partner after her grandmother died.
He had been at a wedding in Port Glasgow with his father when he received a call and was told the news.
Depute fiscal Bill Kermode said Clark had initially asked his father to let him have the car but had been refused on the grounds that he was not insured.
Clark later took the keys but crashed the car on the M90 at the Craigend interchange outside Perth.
The 20-year-old, of The Cross, Forfar, admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance on the M90 Perth to Inverkeithing road between October 5 and 6.
He also admitted taking the car without permission from the Gleddoch House Hotel between October 5 and 6 and to having 53mics of alcohol in his system while on the M90 on October 6. The legal limit is 35.
Solicitor John Adams, defending, said Clark had been concerned for his girlfriend as she had already suffered bereavement in the days leading up to her gran’s death.
Sheriff Valerie Johnston fined Clark £595 and banned him from the road for 10 months.
