An Angus baby has woken from a coma after suffering a brain infection.
Liam and Riona Smith, from Forfar, took one-year-old Charlie to Ninewells Hospital last week for chemotherapy as the tot is fighting cancer but Charlie fell into a coma hours after treatment and it was discovered he was suffering from a brain infection.
He was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.
Liam, 25, and Riona, 23, were pleased to report their little boy is “back to being a happy baby” on social media.
Specialists are set to assess whether Charlie is fit enough to move back to Ninewells to begin chemotherapy anew.
The Smiths realised Charlie was ill when he showed cold-like symptoms in July but were soon told their son had Wilms’ cancer.
A walk has been organised to raise funds for the Smiths’ travel and childcare costs and it will take place at Camperdown Park in Dundee on November 23.
