Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson has been on the other side of the world this week, casting his eye over some promising talent Down Under.
The Tannadice chief was a special guest of Adelaide United chairman Greg Griffin for their Football Federation Australia Cup semi-final clash against Central Coast Mariners on Wednesday night a game that finished 3-2 to the hosts.
But Thompson was quoted in the local Australian media as saying he was not only there for enjoyment but was determined to use his time in Australia for “building relationships with some people”, adding that he had also visited the Middle East and recently met delegates from Sydney’s two A-League clubs Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers.
He is also due to meet Perth Glory owner Tony Sage this weekend before returning to Scotland.
United, of course, had Socceroo defender Curtis Good on loan from Newcastle United last season and aren’t afraid to nurture some of the best young talent on offer wherever they come from.
