Police in Angus have executed a dozen warrants, covering offences including theft, assault, drugs crimes and bail breaches in the first 24 hours of Project Ajax.
Launched on Thursday, Ajax tasks local officers, supported by specialist colleagues, with targeting violent individuals and stopping any violence before it starts.
In addition to executing warrants across the county on a daily basis, police will be conducting high-visibility patrols in areas that have suffered problems of anti-social and violent behaviour.
Sergeant Grace Morrison, who leads the community investigation unit that is driving Project Ajax, said: “We are continuing to actively pursue offenders and ensure that further offences are not committed by these individuals.
“Police Scotland does not tolerate violence in any shape or form and we are determined to target any such behaviour, so that local residents remain proud to call Angus their home.”
Chief Inspector Gordon Milne, Angus area commander, stated his determination that law-abiding residents should be able to enjoy the lead-up to the festive season without threat, intimidation, annoyance, or irritation of the anti-social and criminal minority.
He added: “There is a very small minority out there who do get involved in violence, who get into fights, who drink too much alcohol, and who are involved in incidents of domestic abuse, as well as those who use violence when stealing other people’s property.
“In the run-up to the festive season, I want to concentrate our efforts on this group of selfish individuals and stop the violence before it starts.”
