A postbox has been stolen from a Fife village.
Police have asked for help in tracing those responsible for removing the box from Sir George Bruce Road in Oakley.
The crime is thought to have taken place between 6.30pm last Tuesday and 9.30am on Wednesday although it is understood that no mail was inside at the time.
Oakley and Comrie Community Council secretary John Bonar said: “The postbox is well used by people down that end of the village.It will be very concerning for a lot of people who don’t know where their letters might be.”
Inspector Ian Flynn said: “The box has been completely removed from itsmountings, which may have attracted some attention at the time.
“Anyone who remembers seeing anysuspicious activity in Sir George Bruce Road between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning last week is asked to contact police immediately.”
A spokeswoman for Royal Mail confirmed that the box had beenemptied as scheduled just before thetheft.
She told The Courier: “The box had been cleared on Tuesday and there was no mail inside,” adding that a replacement box will be installed as soon as possible.
She continued: “Royal Mail apologise to customers for any inconvenience and advise anyone who has any concerns about their mail to contact our customer services team on 03457 740 740.”
