Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes wants to make amends for getting it wrong against Dundee United when the sides meet again tomorrow.
The Dons fell to a 3-0 home defeat to the Tangerines on the opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership season on August 10.
McInnes believes he got his line-up wrong in what was the Dons’ seventh competitive game of the new campaign after the Europa League qualifiers, but concedes United deserved to win the league opener at Pittodrie.
He said: “I probably picked the wrong team, but United showed what they are capable of and they deserved to win the game.
“We didn’t look like ourselves and it didn’t feel like the first game of the season for us after the Real Sociedad game and intensity which came with that.
“I’m not going to make excuses as Dundee United fully deserved to win on the opening day of the season. They took advantage of a mistake in the first half and played clever football to make the most of their opportunities.”
The Dons can pull level on points with Jackie McNamara’s side for the first time this season if they win tomorrow and McInnes is eager for his players take their chance.
He said: “We know they are a good team in form themselves trying to stop us but we believe we have every chance of getting a result.”
