Montrose became the Steeltown on Saturday night when Big Country performed songs from their multi-million-selling album of that name.
The legendary band performed songs from Steeltown to mark the album’s 30th anniversary, as well as classic hits including Fields of Fire, In A Big Country and Chance.
The Fife rockers kicked off the Town Hall set with Flame of the West after taking to the stage following support from Calum Campbell and the impressive Amber Road.
The songs sounded sharper in the flesh, with many of the tracks never having been performed live before the Steeltown tour kicked off in October.
Guitarist Bruce Watson told the crowd: “We’ve never played Montrose before, but we’ll definitely be back.”
The 90-minute set finished with hits from the band’s back catalogue, such as Harvest Home, River of Hope and Look Away.
Steeltown was the band’s only UK number one album and was released in October 1984 amid the backdrop of the UK miners’ strike.
Set highlights included Steeltown, Come Back to Me, Tall Ships Go, Rain Dance and Great Divide.
With the late Stuart Adamson at the helm, Big Country scored 17 top 30 UK singles and had five gold and platinum albums.
The band was nominated for Grammy Awards and had support slots with the Rolling Stones and tours with Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and Robert Plant before Stuart took his own life in Honolulu in 2001.
The current band line-up features original members Bruce Watson and Mark Brzezicki, Bruce’s son Jamie, ex-Simple Minds bass player Derek Forbes and Simon Hough on lead vocals.
