Sydney hostage siege: Dundee expat describes ‘terrifying’ scene
ByGraeme Strachan
As the Sydney hostage crisis intensifies, a Dundee woman has today given a first-hand account of the terrifying scenes.
The Australian city has been placed in lockdown since an armed man held an unknown number of people hostage at the Lindt Chocolat Cafe in Martin Place in the heart of the financial district.
Linzi Houston, 32, who moved to Sydney in October on a work visa, told The Courier how she left her flat this morning to find police sniffer dogs searching cars at the end of her street and helicopters flying overhead.
The former Abertay University student was just about to head out when she found out that her journalist cousin Glenn Connley had been evacuated from Channel Seven’s news studios which are directly across from the cafe.
“It’s terrifying because I was in the cafe just a few weeks ago and I’m up that way all the time, “ she said. “I would have been in Martin Place today if I had gone out earlier I’m just glad I didn’t.
