Health Secretary Shona Robison opened the newly-refurbished renal dialysis ward at Ninewells Hospital. The MSP toured the new facilities ahead of today’s public opening. Ward 22 has seen considerable investment and Sean McCartney, head of nursing at renal services, praised the revamp. He said: “It was a huge investment and it’s yielded a massive improvement. We never stand still and we’re always seeking to innovate and develop. “Our main goal in the new ward is infection control, as many of our transplant patients are immunosuppressed. “Many of the design elements are also meant to help people who suffer with dementia with bright, good colours.” Ms Robison, MSP for Dundee City East, said: “It’s fantastic, refurbished and able to form an even greater bond with patients with the new layout. “It demonstrates what’s good about the NHS. I visited once before and it’s simply unrecognisable now. “I hope that the patients find too that it’s a good environment.” The ward deals with patients suffering from kidney trouble, and operates both an out-patient dialysis centre and in-patient services.
