Almost a quarter of Scottish people who voted Labour in 2011 would prefer the SNP to hold the balance of power after the May general election, new polling has found.
The Panelbase poll, commissioned by the SNP, suggested 35% of people backed the SNP holding the balance of power alongside a minority Labour government and 23% of those who voted Labour in 2011 also favour this outcome.
Support for a majority Labour government was 19%. The current Lib Dem/Conservative coalition has the support of just 4%.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “The findings underline the fact voters are putting their trust in the SNP to stand up for Scotland at Westminster, while Labour are continuing to pay the price for their toxic two-year alliance with the Tories throughout the referendum campaign.
“With a strong group of SNP MPs holding the balance of power at Westminster, we can ensure that Scotland’s voice is heard and use our influence positively to end austerity economics, free Scotland of Trident nuclear weapons, and secure the powers we need to build a fairer, more prosperous country.”
