Although he wasn’t due for another two days, Little Zac Dow, from Rosyth, couldn’t wait to enter the world, making him Fife’s first baby of 2015.
Proud mum Fiona Chisholm, 35, went into labour at about 3pm on Hogmanay and Zac, who is her sixth child, was born not long after the bells at 12.16am, weighing 7.9 and a half pounds.
She said: “I wasn’t due until January 3 and was just at home pottering about when the labour started.
“I went into Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy at about 6pm and he was born just after midnight.”
Everything went so smoothly with the birth that Fiona was allowed to go home with her partner Thomas Dow and introduce baby Zac to his five siblings, Samantha, 18, Dannielle, 10, Thomas, 10, Nicole, seven, and Dale, 18 months.
A second baby was also born at Victoria Hospital on New Year’s Day.
Baby Lauren Simpson arrived at 2.01am, weighing 7.6 pounds, to parents Jenni and Andrew, from Dunfermline.
Jenni, 35, said: “I was due on January 2, so it had crossed our minds that the baby might arrive on New Year’s Day.
“Lauren is just gorgeous and we’re over the moon to have her home with our other children, Ewan, who’s four, and Lucy, who’s two.”
