New Year at Ninewells Hospital saw a crop of Courier country babies.
First in was Aoife Marie, born at 4am to Kerry and Steven McDonald.
Kerry said: “She was early, nine days early, couldn’t wait to get out for the new year.
“It was stressful but it was all worth it.”
Dad Steven said: “It was a long process. It was 48 hours from waters breaking to the baby arriving.
“We’re both very tired but so happy.”
Steven was also happy he got to see his beloved Tangerines triumph in the derby.
“She’s got good timing!” he said.
Kerry is a nurse at Stracathro and Steven runs Dennis’s, the convenience store in Brechin.
Also born on January 1 was baby Zayna Khan, to mother Majma Ahmed and Zubair Khan.
Mum Majma said: “It’s a nice new year surprise! She was a week overdue, so we thought she was going to be a Christmas baby.
“We didn’t know it was a girl so that’s a great surprise as well.
“It’s the nicest new year present. We’re absolutely overjoyed.
“We got to the hospital just as the bells came in.
“I think dad is a little more tired, he hasn’t slept for two nights.”
Dad Zubair is a student in petrology engineering and Majma was hoping to study teaching before the baby came along.
