A Forfar minister is planning a 12-hour marathon service to raise vital church funds next month.
The Rev Barbara Ann Sweetin is calling on the community to come to East and Old Parish Church to support her challenge on February 1.
During the service, which runs from 8am to 8pm, she will conduct 24 Bible readings, 24 sermons and lead 70 hymns.
Businesses have supported the fundraising venture by sponsoring each hour of the service and congregation members have paid £10 to sponsor their favourite hymns.
Barbara said: “The way I’ve approached it is to think of it as 12 one-hour services.
“However, normally my services have a bit of church news and the collection plate is passed round, which takes a bit of time, so actually I have to write longer sermons, each of which will relate to a Bible reading.”
The minister hopes to raise at least £1,500 towards the East High Street church’s renovations, which could cost more than £1 million.
There will be further opportunity for people to make donations on the day.
“The members of East and Old have been working hard in their fundraising efforts for the renovation of the inside of the church so I thought I would do my bit too,” she added.
Tea and coffee will be available and music will be provided by Bruce Simpson, Elizabeth McLeod, Margaret Anderson and Jean Smith.
