The tally for Arbroath’s New Year’s Day Dook has passed the £1,000 milestone, organisers say.
More than 100 people took an icy dip in the sea next to the lifeboat shed in aid of Cancer Research UK, piped on by Jack Newth of the Arbroath Royal British Legion Scotland Pipe Band.
Organiser Alana Loudon said: “On behalf of the Angus committee we would like to say a huge thank you to the RNLI, absolute stars; Jack Newth, our intrepid piper; Brian and Ross, ever-smiling St Andrew’s Ambulance volunteers; Morag, Allen, another Morag and other bucket collectors, looking good in your sashes; Glencadam Distillery, Brechin, never was a dram so needed; the helpers, the press, the spectators, we really appreciate the support; and last but not least the brave, or crazy you decide dookers.
“The total so far is over £1,100. Thank you and well done.”
Last year’s event raised just under £3,900 by February.
