A tourist information centre that was intended to be up and running for the Ryder Cup will finally open its doors in time for Easter.
The VisitScotland office on Perth’s High Street was delayed until the tourism body could agree on site requirements.
The former Jessops store will now be transformed into a hi-tech information centre by March.
It will feature free wi-fi and digital ports to allow visitors to the Fair City to share their experiences.
The project is supported by Perth and Kinross Council, and VisitScotland’s information centre will be retained.
A spokeswoman for the tourism agency said: “We can confirm that work will begin on the new High Street site shortly and we hope to complete the work by March at the latest, in time for an Easter opening.
“The delay in the opening was due to a combination of agreeing the requirements for the new site and managing this project alongside other VisitScotland information centre projects.
“The new site will operate as a VisitScotland information centre for Perth city and also promote the wider Perthshire area.
“VisitScotland is working in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council on the project.
“The new centre, in the heart of the city, will continue to inspire and inform visitors about what to see and do in Perth and the wider region, as well as supporting and enhancing the city centre and major tourism developments under way nearby, including the redeveloped Perth Theatre as part of the Perth City regeneration project.
“With anticipated higher footfall and improved visibility in its new location, the information centre is expected to encourage more locals and visitors alike to spend more time in Perth and Perthshire, experience more of what the city and surrounding area has to offer and extend the visitor stay.
“Digital technology will be a key focus to this relocation, offering a more connected tourism service. The provision of free wi-fi and digital access points will encourage visitors to access and share more knowledge, insights and experiences online.”
