A stressed-out schoolboy who crashed his mum’s car yards from the family home has been put off the road for a year.
Monifieth High pupil Hasan Ulhaq previously admitted taking a car away without permission from his home address in Dundee’s Colin Gibson Drive on August 8.
The court heard Ulhaq’s mum had been in the garden when the teenager drove off but he failed to negotiate a nearby roundabout and police were called.
Ulhaq, who turned 17 last month, appeared for sentence before Gregor Murray at Forfar, where solicitor Angela McLardy explained that the incident had happened a week before the teenager’s Higher results had come out.
“He had done quite badly. He is working a lot harder in sixth year,” said the agent.
Sheriff Murray told Ulhaq: “I am not going to fine you because I rather suspect your family would end up paying.”
“I will impose 100 hours of unpaid work to reflect the level of stupidity you showed in this.”
Ulhaq was also disqualified for 12 months, restricted from 15 months in light of the accused’s early plea to the offence.
