A jilted teenager who put his former girlfriend through a “hugely upsetting” ordeal after their break-up has narrowly avoided a prison sentence.
Thomas Parsons bombarded the girl with offensive messages last November and also threatened another male on Facebook.
The court previously heard that 18-year-old Parsons, of Castle Gardens, Edzell, had been going out with the girl for almost a year before she called things off.
He attempted to rekindle the relationship but turned nasty when she rebuffed him, leaving abusive social media and voicemail messages.
In one, Parsons said he would make her life “a living hell.”
Defence solicitor Jennifer Strachan told Forfar sheriff court Parsons was a first offender who had never previously come to the attention of the authorities.
“These offences were borne out of anger and frustration over the break-up of his first serious relationship.
“He accepts that what was said was completely inappropriate and he is genuinely remorseful.”
Sheriff Gregor Murray told the teenager: “This must have been hugely upsetting for the people involved and as a direct alternative to custody, I am prepared to impose a community payback order.”
Parsons must carry out 150 hours of unpaid work within 12 months.
