A coffin maker was injured when he crashed into another car in a head-on collision in Perthshire.
Perth Sheriff Court heard that Kevin Brady, 46, of St Clement Place, Dundee, ended up with a broken nose, two black eyes and a cut to his arm that required surgery.
Meanwhile, three people in the car he collided with were also given treatment, although none of them sustained serious injuries.
Depute fiscal Jim Eodanable said Brady was driving behind one of his colleagues at the end of the working day.
“This motorist noticed his own driving was clocked at 50mph and he pulled over to allow the accused to pass him,” he said.
“This man saw the accused’s car away in the distance but he was still driving at 50mph.”
The court heard that the other driver thought Brady’s car was “too near” the middle of the road and that, at one point, it was on the wrong side of the road.
Mr Eodanable continued: “A little time later, the complainer was travelling in the opposite direction and was aware of the accused’s car coming around the bend of a corner and thought he was driving at excessive speed.
“The cars collided and the complainer later described seeing the accused’s car on the wrong side of the road.
“All three people in the complainer’s car were given treatment that day but released from hospital, while the accused suffered a broken nose, two black eyes and a laceration to his arm, which required surgery.”
Solicitor George Donnelly, defending, said his client had driven the same road “five days a week” for 15 years.
“This collision arose due to a combination of excess speed and familiarity with the road,” he said.
“My client is still unable to return to work.”
Brady admitted that on February 19 last year, on the B953 between Balbeggie and Abernyte, near the service road to Balhill Farm, he drove carelessly by negotiating a corner bend on the wrong side of the road and colliding with another car.
Brady was fined £600 and his licence was endorsed with eight penalty points.
